Challenger 300, Challenger 604, Challenger 605
Challenger 300 inventory has grown 20% in the past year, compared to the broader super midsize category, which has remained level over that same time frame. There are currently 30 aircraft for sale, which represents 6.6% of the active fleet. Challenger 300 activity has been slowing over the past two years. After producing 55 sales in 2018, and 30 in 2019, 2020 is off to a slow start with just nine transactions occurring year to date. The super midsize jet category produced just seven sales in April, but has rallied with 25 transactions combined in May and June. With inventory levels elevated and not much demand, this is the best time to buy a Challenger 300 in the past three years.

Challenger 604 inventory jumped 33% since the first of the year, compared to the entire large jet segment which increased just one percent over that same time frame. There are now 28 Challenger 604’s for sale, the highest level we’ve seen since Q1 2018. 7.9% of the active fleet is for sale. Transactions have been winding down in this market over the past couple years. With 2018 producing 54 CL604 sales, and 32 transactions taking place in 2019, 2020 is well behind pace with just 10 sales on the year. In the large jet segment we saw transitions dip to 25 sales in April, with now 58 sales occurring in May and June. With plenty of options and slowing transactions, now is a great time to buy a Challenger 604.

Challenger 605 inventory is up 58% over the past year, compared to the broader large jet segment which has increased 19% over the same time period. There are currently 30 aircraft for sale, the highest level we’ve seen in three years. Now over 10% of the active fleet is for sale. There have been 11 sales on the year, which is actually well ahead of 2019’s pace where only five aircraft had sold by this time. Even though we saw May and June sales pick up in the large jet segment, overall Q2 2020 activity is down 39% compared to a year ago. With elevated inventory yet transactions taking place, this market remains balanced for buyers and sellers.
